Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

  1. Is there a cost for the initial consultation?

    Answer: Yes. The initial consultation is $150.

  2. How long does a consultation usually last?

    Answer: Generally speaking, the consultation takes about 30 minutes. That is typically sufficient time to address your concerns. Coming prepared with a list of questions will help you get the most out of your time. I highly recommend it.

  3. When I come in for my consultation, am I going to meet with an Attorney or a Paralegal?

    Answer: You will meet with an Attorney. You're paying good money and you'll only receive the expertise of an experienced attorney.

  4. Do I need to bring anything with me to the Initial Consultation?

    Answer: You'll need to bring any papers you've been served with and/or any additional evidence to support your case, a completed intake form, your consultation fee and identification (Driver's License).

  5. Can I bring my spouse to the consultation if we have a mutually agreeable divorce?

    Answer: No. The attorney can only represent and act on behalf of one person in the divorce.

  6. What types of payment do you accept?

    Answer: We accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Cash and money orders.

  7. What is a retainer?

    Answer: Attorneys work from a pre-paid account established in your name. As work is completed, costs are deducted from your account. Retainers are collected when you officially hire an attorney to represent you in your case.

  8. Do we offer payment plans?

    Answer: Yes. If needed, we are usually able to setup payment plans. Details of the payment plan can be discussed during your initial consultation.

  9. Once I hire an attorney, how am I going to know what is going on with my case?

    Answer: One of the major complaints we hear from people who have previously hired other law firms is a lack of communication. There is nothing more frustrating that being concerned or stressed out about a situation and getting no response from your attorney. We make no promises to be perfect, but we have several steps in place to help ensure you get answers when you need them. Here are the main methods of communication:

    • Clients are contacted when any new advancement (s) takes place on their case by phone or through e-mail. Please make sure to keep your phone number and e-mail address current with our office.
    • A copy of all legal documents that are filed on your case will be sent to the mailing address you provide us with or by email. Please make sure you notify our office of any change in your mailing or email addresses immediately.
    • A Legal Assistant/Law Clerk will be assigned to your case and can be reached during business hours either by phone or through email.
    • All attempts to speak with your attorney will be handled as quickly as possible. Given their difficult schedule, clients are not always able to speak with them immediately, but it is our office policy to return calls within 24-48 hours. Another option is to call our office and schedule a phone conference with your attorney. That way you can call at a specific time set aside just for you and your case. 
       
  10. What if an emergency happens with my case over the weekend or after business hours?

    Answers: Someone is available to answer your call 24/7.
